Meg, Ian & Rufus in Portland
Rufus is a 1 year old mix of something and something. Super sweet and loving. When we come home, Rufus skitters around like a little crab. We typically let him outside right away to go to the bathroom and he runs circles around the yard for about 5 minutes before finally settling down enough to give us some kisses.

Nicole & Romeo in San Francisco
My dog Rome has greeted me exuberantly with a dancing happy smiling face for the last 6 years and it will never fail to put a big smile on my face. These days this happy jig has a new twist that is even more entertaining. I’ve started to put Romeo behind a gate in order to keep him away from the noise from the street traffic in the front of the house. The theory is that he will bark less if he isn’t at the front of the house busy guarding from all the noises outside.
Now every time I come home he greets me with the same happy dance but now with a face that says “Hey Mom!” “Hi Hi Hi, I was able to bust through that gate again so I could come and greet you thank goodness!”
Now at the same time he quickly realizes after seeing the look on my face that he is supposed to stay at the back of the house behind the gate. Quickly he begins to gallop to the back of the house while still dancing and looking back at me with his big smiley face and wagging tail.
Needless to say he doesn’t get very far down the hall while galloping forward and looking backwards. I let him do this for awhile then give in and give him a big hug and dance greeting. It’s a routine that will never get old but I’m still hoping the back of the house theory will start working.

Ciara, Alan & Lupe in Seattle
My name is Lupe. I’m a complicated little dog. Many people think that I’m either a puppy or a Chihuahua. But in fact, I’m a TFT! That’s a Toy Fox Terrier.
Since I’m not a cuddly sort of dog, I show love in different ways…
When my family is home and I hear a noise outside, I growl and bark. I know it’s my job to keep my family safe.
When my family decides to take me on a walk I jump up and down and run around in circles. I can jump two feet in the air! I love it when my family takes me on walks. It’s my favorite way to spend time with them.
When my family comes home from work and I’ve been outside all day, I run ahead of them up the stairs. Then I turn around on the landing to make sure they are following me. Once I see them climbing the stairs behind me, I race to my favorite pillow by the fireplace where I can settle in for the evening and spend time with those I love.
This is how I show love!
